Bowie Kuhn
Bowie Kuhn was Commissioner of Major League Baseball from 1969 to 1984.
SABR describes Kuhn as "serious, if not pompous." In Live from New York, the SNL oral history, Dick Ebersol claims to have learned that SNL might have broad appeal when he watched it with Kuhn and his wife. (If even they started laughing...)
He is the Kuhn of Flood v. Kuhn, the Supreme Court case upholding the reserve clause (and denying MLB players free agency). The case was decided 5-3, with Lewis F. Powell Jr. recusing himself because he owned stock in Anheuser-Busch.
He is also (of course) the Kuhn of Melissa Ludtke and Time, Inc., Plaintiffs, v. Bowie Kuhn, Commissioner of Baseball et al., wherein Ludtke (a reporter) successfully sued for access to MLB locker rooms. This was still big news when I was a young baseball fan.
